Xavier Niz, age 83, of Edgewater, died Friday, March 23 at Bert Fish Medical Center. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Mr. Niz came to this area in 2009 from Lexington, Kentucky.

A retired maitre d', having worked in such New York City restaurants as Ben Benson's Steak House, The Stork Club, and the Town Club, Mr. Niz was a lover of horses and a horse racing aficionado. He was also an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Xavier of Jackson Heights, New York; daughters, Mercedes and Virginia; and a grandchild, Chloe Niz of Jackson Heights.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal services.
