William "Bill" Wallace, age 88, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast. He is survived by daughters, Sandra Ostresh (Jay Mitchell) of Palm Coast, Andrea Edwards and Yvonne Leonard (Russ) of Douglasville, GA; son, Terry Wallace (Sue) of Hiram, GA; 7 grandchildren, Allen Edwards of Douglasville GA, Christena Hurst (Joe) of Temple, GA, Daryn and Ashley Ostresh of Ashland, MA, Billy Wallace (Amy) of Powder Springs, GA, Nicole Elliott (Jason) of Brunswick, GA and Jessica Griswold (Sam) of Birmingham, AL; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob, Rebekah and Zoe Hurst, Daniel Edwards, Layla and Sara Wallace; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Warrene Wallace.
He was born in East Point, GA and has lived in New Smyrna Beach, FL for over 50 years. He was an avid country music fan, writing many songs and performing all around New Smyrna with his band "The Orange Blossom Special". He served as a Seaman, first class in the US Navy during WWII, participating in three cross Atlantic missions. He retired from Southern Bell Telephone company in 1982 and worked for Daytona Beach Kennel Club through his 83rd birthday. He was a member of Spruce Creek Baptist Church in Port Orange, where he participated as a choir member and in many skits.
Viewing hours will be at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach on Thursday evening, August 9 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday morning, August 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Spruce Creek Baptist Church, 1952 Taylor Road, Port Orange, FL, with Pastor Bernie Davis and Bill's grandson, Billy Wallace, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bill's name, be given to Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House or the purchase of a memorial brick to be placed in the garden patio, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.
