Dorothy Elkin Galipeau

GALIPEAU, DOROTHY ELKIN

Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Elkin Galipeau, age 99, of Edgewater, who died, Saturday, August 22nd at home will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, with Father Ed Gray, C.Ss.R., officiating. Entombment will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 with a wake service at 7:00 p.m.

Born in Rochester, NY, Mrs. Galipeau, a homemaker, came to this area in 1966 from her birthplace. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, enjoyed crocheting and loved her dog, Muggy. Mrs. Galipeau taught many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cook, clean, sing, and knit, and helped out with Knights of Columbus, where her late husband was a member.

Survivors include 2 children, Ruth Blair of Edgewater, Dolores Blanqui of S. Daytona; a brother, Harold Johns and his with Anne of Rochester, NY; a sister, Edna Olsheski of Rochester; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 18 + great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Ludger, son, Jack, and daughter, Madeline Popp.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Galipeau’s memory to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
