Donald J. Goodson

Donald J. Goodson, age 77, died Thursday, December 7 at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.  Born in Valkaria, Florida, Mr. Goodson was a life long resident of this area.  A lawman, he was captain, chief of detective, and interim chief of the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, retiring after 25 years service.  He then went with the Edgewater Police Department for 12 years, where he was with the criminal investigation division, work which he enjoyed best.

 

Don was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene; graduate of Daytona State College; life member of Jim White Lodge 40, Fraternal Order of Police, New Smyrna Beach; New Smyrna Lodge #149, F. & A.M.; and life member of the Rock Island Law Camp Hunt Club.

 

Survivors include his wife, Carole; daughters, Pam (Marvin) Powers of New Smyrna Beach, Karen (Kirby) Hunter, Port Orange; step-son, Brian (Pam) Griffin of Edgewater; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, Russell.

 

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15 at First United Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach, with Pastors Adrian Calhoun and Charles Acheson, First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
