Gary Steven Caslen

Gary Steven Caslen, age 65, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida died Friday, June 2, 2017 at Florida Hospital, New Smyrna Beach.

Born in New Britain, Connecticut to Robert and Mary (Campagnone) Caslen, Gary graduated from Central Connecticut State College in New Britain. He worked security for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Falmouth, Massachusetts until he moved to New Smyrna Beach in 2004. Gary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. A landscape supervisor at Daytona International Speedway and a teacher for the Volusia County public school system, he also was a member of the Elks Lodge, an avid reader, an artist and enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening, especially roses.

Survivors include 3 brothers, Army Lieutenant General Robert L. Caslen, Jr. and wife, Michele, of West Point, New York, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Caslen, USAF (Ret) and wife, Patricia, of Belleville, Illinois, and Michael Caslen, and wife Victorine, of New Smyrna Beach; his godmother Arlene Reed of New Britain; several cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.  Gary was preceded in death by his mother in 2006 and his father in 2014.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Thursday, June 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Halifax Health Hospice, Attn: Edgewater Care Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
