Gene Miles Tyler

July 20, 1929 ~ December 14, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Gene Miles Tyler, age 88 of Oak Hill, quietly passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home, Daytona Beach, after a long illness.

Born in Garnett, Kansas, Mr. Tyler came to the area over 50 years ago from Wagoner, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a logistics expert in the Aerospace industry. He worked on the Minutemen silos in the Mid West, moving to Florida to work for Cape Kennedy, where he was instrumental on the Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. 

Mr. Tyler was an avid gardener, enjoyed working outside and always fixing things. He loved coffee, college basketball and NASCAR and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Orange.

Survivors include 3 children, Debbie Tyler Fuguet of Oak Hill, Barbara Tyler and Becky Tyler, both of Edgewater; 2 grandchildren, Antonio Fuguet of White Pines, TN and Beverly Piechowski of New Smyrna Beach; nieces and nephews, as well as friends and collegues from the Cape Kennedy’s Space Program. Mr. Tyler was preceded in death by his wife Clara in 2001 and son, Joey Tyler in 2005. 

Celebration of life services, with the family, will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home. Followed by the service at Settle-Wilder chapel with the Pastor Mark Malcolm, First Baptist Church of Port Orange, officiating.  Interment will follow in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
