Joseph “Cigar Joe” Frobe, age 87, of Edgewater, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Halifax Health Hospice, Edgewater.
Born in Pittsburgh, Mr. Frobe came to this area in 1978 from Eighty Four, PA and served in the United States Army. Although he worked all of his life, his favorite job was his most recent, as a gas attendant at the Daytona International Speedway. “Cigar Joe” was a huge NASCAR fan and everyone knew him from the cigar he chewed on while he was working. He also enjoyed his yard work, as his neighbors always said, “he didn’t cut his lawn, he manicured it”. Before he injured his shoulder, he also enjoyed bowling. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; daughter, Denise (Joe) Sustrich of Edgewater; granddaughter, Misty Martin of Port Orange; grandson, Shawn (Natalie) Sustrich of Auburn, WA; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Cisco Martin, both of Port Orange; brother-in-law, George (Judi) Heinzl; and sister-in-law, Mercedes Cowen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Olive; brother, Jack; and granddaughter, Charity Sustrich.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, with the Redemptorist Fathers, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating.
