Karyn Lynn (Hamilton) Stihel, age 68, of Edgewater, died peacefully with her son, JR holding her hand on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital, Daytona Beach. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania to James G. Hamilton and Jean "Elayne" Volk Wasko; Karyn moved to this area 21 years ago from Fayette City, Pennsylvania. She is preceded in death by John Wasko, loving stepfather, her mother, and sister, Jonalyn Wasko.
A homemaker, Karyn enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, dancing, going to the beach, the park, swimming, and playing cards. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and family.
Survivors include 3 sons, William J. (Kimberly) Umbel, John R. (Amy Sue) Umbel and Michael A. Martin; 3 step-children, Deborah, Bernard (Crissy) and Joseph Martin; 3 sisters, Sheryn Dacko, Shannon Mitchell, and Cynthia Merchant; 5 grandchildren; Caleb and Jacob Umbel, and Anthony, Porsche and Zoey Martin; long time friend, Wanda Kotlensky, along with a large extended family and many foster children.
Sheri (sister), Staci (Iddings) Smith and Tonya Dacko (nieces) helped with her caregiving over the years. Karyn lived with Sheri and Tonya for the past 13 years.
Karyn was very thankful for the wonderful care she received from medical staff at Florida Hospital New Smyrna and Select Specialty Hospital, Ormond Beach.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 25, at the 27th Avenue Beachfront Park, 3701 South Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, 32169. Following the service will be a flyover at 11:00 a.m.
