Nancy Jo Sloan

Nancy Jo Sloan, age 78, of Edgewater, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Florida Hospital Hospicecare, DeLand.

Born in Ashtabula, Ohio to Albert and Lorna Alcott Whitman, Mrs. Sloan relocated to this area in 1966. A member First Baptist Church in Edgewater and the Board of Realtors, she was a Sunday school teacher, very involved in her children’s education, and had a photographic memory. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and was a huge NASCAR fan. Her favorite driver was Richard Petty and she had the same seats at the racetrack for decades. She was the owner of SS Property Shop, where she also brokered.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Joseph Schlegel; two sons, Kevin (Rachel) Sloan of Bloomingdale, GA and Greg (Daphne) Sloan of Edgewater; daughter, Amanda (Jim) Pritchard of Edgewater; five grandsons, Darren, Russell, Christopher, Shawn, Dylan, and Timothy; three granddaughters, Lauren, Haley, and Ann Marie; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon Whitman; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Henry “Hank”, whom she was married to for 29 years.

A memorial service and interment of the cremated remains will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater, with Pastor Larry Husebo, Christ Community Church, officiating.
