Patricia Maye Johnson

Patricia Maye Johnson, age 85, of New Smyrna Beach, died Monday, July 19, 2021 at AdventHealth Hospice New Smyrna. Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Frank and Margie Acton Hopper, Patricia came to the area in 1964 from Oklahoma City, OK.

 

A member of the Church of God, New Smyrna Beach, Patricia was an elementary teacher, and was a  pioneer of the Special Education Program in the late 1960's; she taught at Coronado Beach, Samsula, Reed Patillo and other various schools. Patricia retired from South Daytona Elementary.

She loved reading, going to church and especially her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Patricia cared for and raised numerous children during her lifetime; never turning anyone away.

 

Survivors include her 5 children, Jay L. Johnson, Jeffrey L. Johnson, Margie J. Johnson, Janell Johnson Ledger and Jesse McKenna; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She had a large extended family. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Keith and Stanley Hopper.

 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Church of God, 2080 Paige Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, with the Reverend Larry Owen, officiating. Burial will follow at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Church of God.
