Ruth E. Relyea

Ruth E. Relyea, age 99, of New Smyrna Beach, died on Friday, May 6, 2016 at her residence. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Ruth moved to this area in 1968 from Queens, New York. An assistant public relations director for the United Methodist Church, New York Conference; she was a member of the Edgewater United Methodist Church, AARP Chapter 3037, TOPS Florida Chapter #511, Monarch Travel Club, Woman's Club, Seaside Strokers, P.O.R.T. Travel Club, Women of the Moose and the Country Crafters, all in New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. She also volunteered for the Fresh Start program and the YMCA. Survivors include her sister Mildred Clarke; 2 daughters, Deborah Flerra and her husband, Richard, of Merritt Island and Pamela Kingsley and her husband, John, of Ozone Park, New York; 4 grand children, Alex Flerra and his wife, Lisa, David Flerra and his wife, Olivia, Sean Kingsley and Kristin Kingsley; 4 great-grandchildren, Landon, Alexa, Dylan and Jackson Flerra. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Bristol and her second husband, Morris Relyea. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13 at Edgewater United Methodist Church, 211 N. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, with the Reverend Gary Tarleton officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mrs. Relyea's name to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 2381 Mason Avenue, Ste. 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
