Alice Durrett Hardy, age 77, of New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Halifax Hospice Center Edgewater after her battle with lung cancer. Born in Spring Hill, West Virginia to Willis Gregory and Virgie Susan Armstrong Durrett, Alice moved to West Palm Beach in 1970, before moving to New Smyrna Beach in 1980.
Alice was a nurse for Russell Welsh, M.D., until he retired and then she worked for Connie True, M.D., until Alice retired. She loved doing cross word puzzles and taking care of her family. Alice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Jimmy (Jim); 3 sons, JD, (Dori) Hardy of Hawthorne, FL, Greg Hardy of Port Orange, FL and Jay C. (Mary Beth) Hardy of Palatka, FL; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; 2 brother-in-laws, John Hardy of Calabash, NC and David Hardy of Somerset, KY; and sister-in-law, Sue Melanson of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4th at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home with the Reverend David Starkey, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations to Halifax Health Hospice Center, 4140 S. Ridgewood Ave. Edgewater, FL 32141 or a charity of one’s choice.
