Betty Powers

Betty Powers, age 87, of New Smyrna Beach, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.

Born in La Salle, Illinois, Mrs. Powers was raised Catholic by her parents, Antoni and Stella Michalik Wrobleski and came to this area in 1982, from Oglesby, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening in her yard and finding treasures at garage sales. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her and they miss her, already.

Survivors include her two sons, Lawrence and Dennis Samolinski, both of New Smyrna Beach; daughter, Bonnie Gast, of Lake of Ozarks, MO; her first husband, Lawrence Vincent Samolinski, of La Salle, IL; three grandsons, Matt (Julie) McDonald, of Ladd, IL and Dennis Samolinski, of New Smyrna Beach, and Peter (Regina) Simon of Daytona Beach Shores; two granddaughters, Michelle (Mark) Wellard, of Bradenton, FL and Sara (Tim) Rock, of Wilbur by the Sea; two great-grandsons, Camden McDonald of Ladd, IL and Dylan Wellard, of Bradenton, FL; two great-granddaughters, Reese McDonald, of Ladd, IL and Maya Wellard, of Bradenton, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Clinton Powers, and her son, Jeffrey Lee Samolinski.

A celebration of Mrs. Powers’ life will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, with the Reverend Mark Spivey officiating. Family and friends will gather from 3:00 p.m. until the service begins.
