Welcome to the memorial page for

Edith Marie Smith Burrell

December 29, 1920 ~ November 10, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Edith Marie Smith Burrell was born December 29,1920 to Ana Myrtle Applegate and Junise Smith in Vanceburg, Kentucky died Friday November 10, 2017 at 96 years of age.

She was the oldest of eight where she developed a nurturing soul and a hard working character. After graduating high school she moved away and had various secretarial positions. During wartime, she was a participant in a career that we affectionately refer to as "Rosie the Riveter". She met Robert "Bob" Cohen Burrell at a Halloween party. They dated several years and married July 7,1948 in Miami, Florida. He worked at Eastern Air Lines while both worked on their small "truck" farm which they eventually turned into a successful Mango farm. Their mangoes were high quality and highly sought after. Here is where they raised their two daughters, Sandra and Nadine. They worked that farm for 50 years until moving to New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater to be near family, where family ties date back to the 1940's.

Edith was a kind, very caring, and loving Mom, Grandmother, and Great grandmother. All her oldest grand children and great grandchildren share her middle name Marie. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Kent, Nadine (Richard) Cooper, grandchildren, Jade Marie Kent Medders (RJ), Robert Ryan Kent (fiance Keri Jude), Ashley Marie Cooper-Heath (James), Amy Nadine Jones. Her great grandchildren are: Sage Marie, Lexi Marie, Lacey Ann, and Landon Michael and sisters, Betty Collier and Janet Roberts, both of Kentucky along with many nieces and nephews and a big extended family.

A funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday November 14, 2017 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach with Chaplain Raphael Camilo officiating. Interment will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday 12:00 noon until service time.

A special word of thanks and appreciation to Tiffany on the River and Kindred Hospice for their loving care as Edith made her transition, and to VITAS Hospice when she still lived at home for all their attention and love. Edith's family thanks you all from the bottom of their hearts. God Bless you all.
