Fred L. Peters

September 13, 1933 ~ October 5, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


Fred L. Peters, age 84, of Oak Hill, passed away Thursday October 5, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Savannah, Georgia, Mr. Peters moved to this area from Utica, New York in 1997. Fred graduated from UFA High School in 1952 and served in the Army during the Korean War. He then settled into working as a conductor/brakeman for Conrail for 45 years.

He was an avid fisherman and took pride in sharing his catch of fresh shrimp and clams with friends and neighbors in the community of Lighthouse Cove. He never missed a bingo game, poker night or any meeting of the homeowners association where he actively shared his prospective and stance on every issue presented. He was an explorer by nature and traveled the back country of Florida on his cherished Honda 150 and navigated around Mosquito Lagoon in various water craft.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Deanne, 6 children, Michael (Jacque) Peters, Linda (Robert) Cunningham, Robert Peters, Patricia (Carlton) Geckler, Jennifer (David) Evers, and David Peters; 10 grandchildren, Jill, Jay and Julie Peters, Brian (Jessica) Cunningham, Sarah (Matthew) Cavoto, Ryan and Sean Geckler, Emily Peters, Samantha and Kristen Evers; sisters, Eileen Stefanski, Hazel Dilts and Linda Getman. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Cecile Peters; 2 sisters, Dorothy Skerratt and Elizabeth Pasick.

Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 p.m. Wednesday October 18, 2017 at Settle-Wilder Chapel, New Smyrna Beach, with the Reverend Mark Spivey officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of service.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Peters’ memory to a charity of one’s choice.
