Gerald "Jerry" Ryan

Gerald “Jerry” Ryan, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019.  He was one of eight children born to Marion and Patrick Ryan in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York.

 

The Ryan family moved to Middle Village, Queens, New York shortly thereafter.  Jerry went to New York City Schools, St. Margarets Catholic School, Newtown High and attended Queens College.

 

He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Doris Walters was his bride in 1955 and they became proud parents of four sons.  The couple made their home in Forest Hills, New York.

 

He worked in management positions for Getty Oil, Sylvania Electric, Doyle Dane, Bernbach Advertising and Jim Johnson Advertising.

 

Doris and one son, Jeff, died before Jerry.  He leaves Mark, Chris, Dave and a total of nine grandchildren.

 

Jerry traveled the country and Europe for business and for pleasure.  He loved Florida and especially New Smyrna Beach.  He started vacationing here in 2000 and retired here in 2014.  He had a good long life and always stated he had no regrets.  

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:45 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 at St. Margarets Catholic Church, 6605 79th Place, Middle Village, New York 11379. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, 127-15 Kew Gardens Road, Kew Gardens, New York 11415.  A reception will be held afterwards. Details to follow.
