Hugo W. Holmquist, Jr.

April 9, 1921 ~ December 17, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Hugo W. Holmquist, Jr., age 96, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Kristen McCloskey on Sunday, December 17, 2017.

Born in Cranston, Rhode Island, Hugo served in World War II with PT Boat Squadron 11 in the South Pacific as a radar and radio technician. He worked for IBM Kingston from 1955 until his retirement 1984, when he and his wife Shirley came to New Smyrna Beach from Saugerties, New York. A member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Hugo was an avid bowler in both Saugerties and Florida. He always looked forward to his Thursday morning league at the New Smyrna Lanes where he carried his 160 average through this past summer. 

Survivors three sons, Dana (Dawn) of Coral Springs, Florida, David (Veronica) of Saugerties, New York, and Dennis (Stephanie) of Palm City, Florida; a daughter, Kristen McCloskey (Pete) of Longwood, Florida; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  Hugo was predeceased by his wife Shirley, daughter Joan, twin brother, Robert, and sister, Ruth. He was a true family man.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend David Hartling officiating.

Hugo's cremations will be interred this Spring, along side his wife Shirley, during an Episcopal service at the property of David and Veronica in Saugerties. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
