LCDR Leroy E. Barnett, U.S.C.G.R. (Retired), age 82, of New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, December 19 at Halifax Health Hospice Edgewater. Born in New Smyrna Beach, he was a life long area resident and a department director for the County of Volusia.
He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church; Fraternal Order of Police; Elks Lodge #1557; American Legion Post 17; New Smyrna Masonic Lodge #149; Scottish Rite Valley of Orlando; Orient of Florida; Bahia Shrine Temple; and Bahia Stable #166, Ancient Order of Camel Herders. An avid pilot and skydiver with over 400 jumps, he was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Civil Air Patrol, AOPA and NSIA.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patricia, and two sons, Ian Lee Barnett of DeLand, and Rian Kel Barnett of New Smyrna Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Ruth Barnett, two sisters, Esther and Nancy, and a brother, Richard “Nicky.”
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with the Reverend Seraphin Conley, T.O.R. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 1555 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
