Mary K. Slater, age 82, of New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, December 6 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Williamson, West Virginia, Mrs. Slater moved to Orlando in 1961, where she was a librarian for Orange County Schools. She came to this area in 1992.
Mrs. Slater received her undergraduate degree from Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky, and masters degrees from both Florida State University and University of Central Florida. An active member of Glencoe Baptist Church, she was always quick to volunteer when someone was in need. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Glenn Slater; nieces, Barbara (Michael) Bowman-Hensley of Black Mountain, North Carolina, Kathe (Todd) Johnson of Surprise, Arizona; nephews, Randy (Terri) Bowman of Asheville, North Carolina, John Felix of Indianapolis, Indiana; and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16 at Glencoe Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
