Roland W. "Ike" Eisenbarth, 82, Colonel US Army, Retired, passed away February 13, 2018. A long time resident of New Smyrna Beach, he enjoyed his adopted town with his wife, Shirley. Together they golfed, rode motorcycles and enjoyed community activities.
Ike was born in Torrington, Wyoming and grew up on the family farm near Weiser, Idaho. In 1957 he graduated from Idaho State College, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and entered service at Ft. Jackson, SC. His career consisted of a variety of assignments in stateside locations, Germany and two years in Vietnam. During his 26 years of active duty he received accelerated promotions to Lt. Colonel and Colonel. His last assignment was Secretary to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. Upon his retirement he worked in private industry with Computer Sciences Corporation and Planning Research Corporation.
After a serious bout with cancer among other service related health issues he was declared to have been exposed to Agent Orange and designated a Disabled Veteran. Although suffering from multiple and crippling ailments, his sense of humor and lunchtimes out at local eateries with Shirley and friends provided him much enjoyment.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley and his three children, Henry, Steven and Tonja; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and siblings, Donna Althen, Boise, ID; Mary Eisenbarth, Las Vegas, NV; and Jacque Wray, deceased, Weiser, ID.
He will be buried with honors in Arlington National Cemetery.
