Sara "Sally" Jane Heavener, age 85, of Edgewater, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Advent Health Hospice Care East, Daytona Beach. Born in Abington, Pennsylvania to Edwin Thomas and Ada Haldeman Scarborough; Sara came to the area in 1963 from Doylestown, PA.
She was a United States Women’s Army Corps veteran, member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, New Smyrna Beach; Daughters of American Revolution, Jane Sheldon Chapter and Ladies of the Moose, Chapter 1515 and a member of the Elks Club. Sara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo, dining at local restaurants and watching game shows and classic TV programs.
Survivors include her 5 sons, Glenn “Butch” French, Jr., of New York; Edwin "Eddy" French of Daytona Beach; Robert (Diane) Heavener of Gambrills, Maryland; Roy Heavener of Edgewater and Don Heavener of Texas; many grandchildren and many great grandchildren; 2 brothers, William (Claire) Scarborough of Swarthmore, PA and Edwin “Tommy” (Carol) Scarborough of Doylestown, PA. She was preceded in death by parents; son, Joe Heavener; and 2 sisters, Ada Nuss and Ruth Ann Hager.
Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10th at Settle-Wilder Chapel with The Reverend Rodney Roehner, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 10th from 4:00 p.m. to the time of the service. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Resurrection Garden, New Smyrna Beach.
