William “Bill” Kaye McGee, 88, of Oak Hill, died peacefully Saturday, December 1, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born on August 23,1930 to Clifford and Evelyn Simmons McGee; Bill was a lifelong resident of this area.
A graduate from New Smyrna Beach High, Mr. McGee got his bachelor’s degree from Rollins College and his master's degree from Southern Mississippi. He was a machinist for Florida East Coast Railroad and retired from Pan Am/Johnson Controls after 35 years as general manager/program manager at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The president of McGee Groves; Bill served as a director for the Bert Fish Hospital Board, Oak Hill City Commissioner, treasurer of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association, and the founder of McGee Well Drilling. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 149 in New Smyrna Beach for over 50 years and was a little league baseball umpire.
Surviving relatives include four sons; Steve McGee (Jan), Mark McGee (Helen), David McGee (Kim), Scott McGee (Joie); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his father, Clifford W. McGee Sr, mother, Evelyn Simmons McGee, brother, Clifford W. McGee Jr, twin brother, James D. McGee, and his beloved daughter, Carolyn McGee Hope.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, at First Baptist Church of Oak Hill, with Dr. Tim Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday, December 7, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.
