Willis Hunter Edwards, III, age 80, of New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his residence. Bill was a loving family member. Born in Gainesville, Florida to Willis Hunter, Jr. and Willie Jeanette Davis Edwards, Bill came to the area in 2008 from Alachua County.
A loving family member with many long term friends, Bill was a member of Coronado Community United Methodist Church. He was very colorful and textured, and had a lot to celebrate with his tremendous humor and wit. Bill loved hunting, fishing and was a rugged outdoorsman. He started many recovery programs in prisons. Bill was an excellent carpenter and one of a kind. He was licensed as a real estate salesman and sold acreage. Bill graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia in 1958 with an associates degree in agriculture and business. He went on to study at both Florida State University and University of Florida.
Survivors include sisters, Sandra (Al) Garcia of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Susan Edwards of San Rafael, California; three nephews, John (Christine) Garcia; Dr. Richard Benjamin Garcia and Leif Richardson; 2 grand nieces, Ava Garcia-Aller and Liana Ronan Garcia. Also surviving are 3 aunts and numerous cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, other aunts and uncles.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25th at Settle-Wilder Chapel with the Reverend Robert C. Brown, officiating. A Gathering of Friends will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
