Zane G. Townsend

Zane G. “Sonny” Townsend, age 90, of Oak Hill, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at home. Born in Diana, West Virginia, Mr. Townsend came to this area in 1974 from Portsmouth, Virginia.

A Navy Veteran of World War II, he was a retired civil servant for the United States Government. He was an avid fisherman and a tinkerer, someone who could build or fix just about anything.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; a son, Carl Townsend and wife, Patricia, of Byron, Georgia; a daughter, Cindy Davenport of Macon, Georgia; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6 at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Palmer, First Baptist Church of Oak Hill, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
