Betty Severance

Betty (Nichols) Severance, 84, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away on November 30, 2025, at 3:09 A.M. Born September 30, 1941 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida to Gifford “Nick” Nichols and Jennie (Hall) Nichols. She graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1959. She met David C. Severance (passed in 2017) in Orlando, Florida and they were married in 1961. David was serving in the U. S. Air Force and Betty accompanied him to his duty stations (Nouasseur Air Force Base, Casablanca, Morocco; Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee, Massachusetts and Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska). Their son, Gregory Scott Severance, was born in Casablanca (1962); their son, Mark Douglas Severance, was born in Chicopee (1963). After David’s Air Force service ended in 1966 they moved to Edgewater, Florida and David began his long career at the Kennedy Space Center. Their daughter, Christa Louise (Severance) Wei, was born in New Smyrna Beach, Florida (1968). Betty worked many years as a registered nurse at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach (now AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach). Betty will be remembered as a tireless caregiver to her family, to her church and to her local community. Her strong Christian faith and leadership were evident in service projects such as leading cancer support groups, organizing community dental service outreach, and many others. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Kenneth Nichols and grandson, Kyle Severance. Betty is survived by: three children, Gregory and his wife Doreen Cragnotti, Mark and his wife Denise (Bander) Severance; Christa and her husband Kenny Wei; eight grandchildren, Cody Severance, Justin Severance, Tyler Severance, Brian Wei-Maxson, Jordan (Wei) Grilley, Korrina Cragnotti, Morgana Cragnotti, Chanda Cragnotti; four great-grandchildren, Georgia Severance, David Kyle Severance, Amelia Griffin-Wei, Cora Grilley.
