Cara Lynne Shaffer, age 44, of Edgewater Florida, died, Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Advent Health New Smyrna with her family by her side. Born in New Smyrna Beach to George and Arlynne Shaffer, she was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife, and a veteran.
After graduating New Smyrna Beach High School in 1998 she enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she honorably served as an Aerospace Medical Technician. Her first duty station was with the 89th Medical Group at Andrews AFB in Camp Springs, Maryland where she met her first husband Brandon King. In 2002 she gave birth to her son Evan who was her pride and joy. In 2004 she was transferred to the 75th Medical group at Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah. In 2006 she separated from the Air Force and in 2008 she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2012 she was remarried to Adam Helms and moved to Los Angeles, California for a short time before returning to Edgewater in 2014, where she has remained since then.
Cara loved animals and seemed to take in any kind of stray that showed up on her doorstep. Cats, dogs, turtles, squirrels, neighbors or friends. It didn’t matter, if they needed help and love she had plenty to give. She was also an avid gardener, she loved to fill her yard and life with the beauty that nature provided. Cara was also a very skilled artist and writer. At one time she even performed live paintings at the Venetian Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
A spiritualist and intellectual, Cara had her own personal relationship with God and the Universe. She believed that all life is connected and that we are one with the earth, and that our spirit energy will live on forever.
Survivors include her son, Evan Shaffer King; fiance, Tony Lidster; former husband, Brandon King; brothers, Chuck Martin, and Frank Martin. Mother, Arlynne Shaffer and Father George Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her Brother Jimmy Martin and Ex-Husband Adam Helms and her dog Willow.
