Carmine Cortese, age 66, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died suddenly Saturday, January 27, 2024 while at work. Born in Magisano, Catanzaro, Italy, Carmine came to the area in 2014 from Middletown, New York. Carmine is predeceased by his father Antonio and mother Mariantonia Cortese.
Carmine was a talented entrepreneur whose craft and passion drove all his pursuits. Owner/Operator of several successful businesses throughout his lifetime; Tania’s Fashions, Triple C Construction and Hudson Valley Coffee Roasters. In 2015 Carmine and his son, John-Anthony moved to New Smyrna Beach Florida to start their next venture, Baci Pizzeria Ristorante. After much success of the authentic, family-owned eatery, they expanded to a Beer & Wine Cellar next door.
An avid soccer player, talented builder, wine enthusiast, and an extremely phenomenal cook. He was generous, loyal, brave, stubborn at times, but had an enormous heart and clever sense of humor. If you were around Carmine, you were guaranteed to eat, laugh, drink good wine and feel like a part of the family.
When not watching his favorite cooking shows or hanging with his partner-in-crime German Shepherd, Vino, he was making Sunday dinners for his beloved family. He was a proud father, grandfather to his first grandson, brother, and uncle that will be missed by all that knew and loved him. His departure comes as a great shock and deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared and for his huge personality that flowed through not only Baci Pizzeria, but the entire New Smyrna Beach community.
Survivors include his son, John (Abrielle Sherman) Cortese; daughter, Andrea Cortese; grandson, Giuseppe Antonio Cortese; spouse of 32 years, Jennie Cortese; brother, Dominick (Annamaria) Cortese; two sisters, Maria (Pietro) Corea, and Rosa (John) Siena; and many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Carmine was a member of Mount Carmel and the Elks Club in Middletown, New York.
