Carol Ann Goose, age 89, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Beachside Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Garrett Hobart and Helen Naomi Pendry Sutherland, Carol came to the area in 2017 from Orange City, Florida. Carol lived in Orange City, Florida from 1982 until her move to New Smyrna Beach.
Carol spent her career as a controller and bookkeeper for several companies over her lifetime. At a later age she was a librarian at Stetson University in DeLand, FL and was affectionately known to many of the students as Mother Goose.
She then followed her passion of holistic medicine and became a neuromuscular massage therapist. She always had the ability, before and after her training to put her hands on someone and fix their pains.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a key member of the West Volusia Historical Society and spent many hours in the preparing of their book. Carol loved art, music, and theater. In her younger days she starred in local productions of “See How They Run” and “Madam Butterfly” where she spoke in only the Okinawan language.
Carol was always giving of her time to help others, she volunteered for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department as a Victims Advocate, helping those in some of the toughest times of their life. In earlier days while living in Miami she spent her weekend evenings staffing the Suicide Hotline. In earlier days, she took in troubled teen woman to help them escape abusive conditions. Carol would give her last dollar to help someone in need.
Survivors include her son, David (his wife Angelina) Goose; daughter, Jamie Ann Fish, of Debary, FL; two granddaughters, Lauren Goose, of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Jennifer Fish, of Deltona, FL; and grandson, Ryan Fish, of Debary. Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at River Park Terrace in New Smyrna Beach on Thursday October 19th at 2:00 p.m. If anyone has interest in attending the service and celebration of life, please email her son David at; goose189@att.net.
