Carole Yarborough, age 78, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023. Carole was born on April 13, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Ann Young Gilliam.
Carole was a graduate of Lower Marion High School and earned her B.A. in history from East Stroudsburg University. She was awarded her Master’s Degree in education from West Chester University.
Carole moved to Orlando in 1987 from Avalon, NJ and spent time at her condominium in New Smyrna before moving to New Smyrna full time in 2007.
Carole was a licensed realtor in New Jersey and Florida and was a professor of History at Valencia College in Orlando. She was an active member of the Redneck Tennis Club in New Smyrna and an avid bridge player at the Port Orange Senior Center. Carole enjoyed traveling to watch tennis tournaments both here and abroad. Her favorite venue was Roland Garros Stadium in Paris, home of the French Open. She was a huge fan of Roger Federer.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie Yarborough, of New Smyrna Beach; her 2 children, Tracey Yarborough, of Wayne, PA; and Ernie Yarborough, of Indianapolis, IN; and her 2 grandchildren Samantha and Woody.
A casual Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home at 406 S. Orange St., New Smyrna Beach, where family or friends can speak. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In keeping with Carole’s wishes, the service will be informal with casual attire acceptable.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity, 240 N. Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, FL 32132, where Carole volunteered her time.
