Darby John Shaw, age 64, of New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday, April 18, 2024 at AdventHealth Daytona Beach. Born in Norfolk, Virginia to James Edmund and Katherine Frances Shanahan Shaw, Darby came to the area in 2011 from Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Darby retired from the Virginia Beach Police Department after 25 years of dedicated service. He was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gathering with friends in the New Smyrna Beach Social Club and the Redskins Crew at Peanuts. Darby also had a passion for fishing, music, and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather lovingly called "Daideo".
Survivors include his wife of seven years, Karen; son, Brendan (Kristina) Shaw, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter, Kelly (Jared) Abel, of Holland, Pennsylvania; grandson, Curran Abel, and granddaughter, Diem Abel, both of Holland, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Kevin (Laura) Shaw, Mick (Kathy) Shaw, and Teig (Melissa) Shaw, and sister in law, Donna (Andy) Harmond. Darby was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Cheryl.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a Eulogy at 10:45 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2024 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia. A burial will immediately follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
