Douglas Adam Bradshaw Jr. was born on May 05, 1950 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Douglas Sr. and Dorabelle (Riggan) Bradshaw.
As a baby, his family moved from North Carolina back to his Father’s hometown of Gloversville, New York. In school Doug excelled in basketball and wrestling. He and his two older sisters, Betty and Carole, and older brother, Jay, spent many summers with his Mother’s family in Hopewell, Virginia.
In 1969 he enlisted for 4 years in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Bitburg, Germany. It was in Europe, while skiing in Sölden, Austria that he met and fell in love with his future wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia (Strudwick) Bradshaw, from England. He quickly won over and bonded with her family.
They moved back to Gloversville, New York where Doug and Pat built a house, and they had two beautiful daughters, Tiffany and Vanessa. During this time he worked in sales statewide, hunted, skied, bowled, and shared time with their extended family.
In 1985 they moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and then Longwood, Florida where Doug was a stay-at-home Dad and later returned to working in sales. Doug never knew a stranger and was a natural at helping others and sharing his wealth of do-it yourself knowledge.
Doug enjoyed and seldom missed one of his daughters’ gymnastics, soccer, or lacrosse games. He was known for being an active participant and could often be found kicking air (and water bottles) on the sidelines expressing his passion and frustration for the game. The family went on adventurous vacations hiking in the Smokey Mountains and exploring Europe and England.
Upon retirement, Doug and Pat moved back to New Smyrna Beach and shared exciting vacations exploring the U.S. National Parks and Mayan ruins in Belize and Guatemala, as well as the walking local beaches searching for shells.
Throughout his life, Doug has enjoyed music, late night TV and talks, ping pong, darts, cooking, fishing, and doing jigsaw puzzles. He supported his two daughters as an avid Florida Gator fan and loved watching English soccer and tennis.
Doug shared his quick humor and inventive one-liners with everyone, even strangers in the grocery store line. Most of all Doug enjoyed making those around him laugh, and spending time with his family.
Douglas Adam Bradshaw Jr., age 74, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died on Friday, May 10, 2024 peacefully at his home, surrounded by family.
