Duane A. Simmons, 58, of Oak Hill, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Born on July 19, 1966 in Daytona Beach, he was the youngest son of Ann and Albert Simmons, and a lifelong resident of Oak Hill. Duane will always be remembered as a man who loved his family, cherished his friends, and had a heart of gold. He touched the lives of many with his kindness and fun-loving sense of humor.
Duane worked at CCAFS as a Facility Mechanic between 1987 and 2013 and was a member of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 525 during that time period. His jobs since then involved truck driving and heavy equipment operation for various employers.
During his lifetime Duane was a member of the Oak Hill Volunteer Fire Department and served as a coach for Oak Hill Little League teams. Duane loved spending time with kids of all ages. He was a talented handyman, enjoyed operating all kinds of heavy equipment, loved hunting and 4-wheeling, and was an avid NASCAR and Florida Gators fan.
Duane is survived by his wife JoAnn Simmons of Edgewater, stepsons James and Joseph Giambra, several step-grandchildren, brothers Gary Simmons of Ft. Pierce, Steven (Jan) Simmons of Oak Hill, Bruce (Barbara) Simmons of Mims, “special sister” Barbara Lowe of New Smyrna, nephews Brian Simmons, Gary Simmons, Jr., and John Simmons, nieces Stephanie Roof, Elizabeth Ward, and Jennifer Simmons, grand-nephews Hunter Roof, James and Christian Ward, and Jacob Simmons, grand-niece Luna Simmons, and many cousins.
Settle-Wilder Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach is serving the family with cremation services; burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held later in Oak Hill.
