Etta (Dee Dee) M. Johnson

Etta M. Johnson, (Dee Dee), age 81, of Pahokee, Florida died Thursday, September 7, 2023 at her daughter’s New Smyrna Beach residence.

Born in Belle Glade, Florida to (father’s first name) and Gladys Carswell Powell, Etta was a  resident of Belle Glade, Long Island, New York, New Smyrna Beach, and  Pahokee, Florida.

A longtime cafeteria employee and retiree from Pahokee Middle High school, Etta was a member of the United Missionary Baptist in Pahokee, she sang in the choir for many years; loved flowers, church music and the blues. Etta was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed entertaining. She had a very close family unit and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Asize “Cookie” Brooks, of New Smyrna Beach; grandson, Peter Brooks Jr., of New Smyrna Beach; granddaughters, Tracey Brooks, of Daytona Beach, Sabrena Brooks, of New Smyrna Beach, and Christy Brooks, of Daytona Beach; great grandchildren, Tranija, Tamerra, Tia, Ty’Shawn, Shaniya, Zayden, and Kenai; brothers, Samuel (his wife, Paulette) Powell, of Palm Coast, and Lawrence (his wife, Peggy) Powell, of Palm Coast. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  Etta was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Wayne Johnson.
