Eugene W. Roach, age 89, of New Smyrna Beach, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at Lexington Place, New Smyrna Beach. Born in Big Isaac, West Virginia to Richard A. and Chloe Mowrey Roach, Eugene came to New Smyrna Beach in 1987 from Winter Park.
He served in the United States Army as a military instructor, and was a college professor, graduating from the West Virginia Wesleyan, West Virginia University and University of Maryland, history professor Valencia Community College for 25 years, and adjunct professor at University of Central Florida and Rollins.
Eugene was a a lifelong member of the National Education Association, Board member of State of Florida Historical Society and Orange County Historical Society; speaker on historical topics to various clubs and organization in the area; member of Lions and Elks Clubs in the area; member of the senior 60 and over softball league; member of NSB Historical Society; member of NSB Presbyterian Church.
Eugene enjoyed playing adult/senior softball and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother that will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his son, Alex (Stacey) Roach, of New Smyrna Beach; two granddaughters, Lindsay, of Edgewater; and Alexandra Roach, of Casselberry; brother, Richard (Vanessa) Roach, of Gassaway, West Virginia. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra; and brother, Jack Roach.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church, New Smyrna Beach, with the Reverend Beverly Richardson, officiating.
