Frank Edward (Jr.) Klopfer

Frank Edward Klopfer, a devoted family man, decorated veteran, and famously competitive spirit, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 77. In a fitting farewell, he departed from his happy place, the beach. Born in Washington D.C., Frank proudly served his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his service, he dedicated his entire professional career to Verizon and its preceding telecommunications companies. He was the widower of his beloved wife, Kathy Klopfer, and the loving father of four children: Keith Klopfer, Kelly Park, Daniel Klopfer, and Lucas Klopfer. (They were listed here in order of age, not favoritism—a distinction the children never let him forget.) He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren. A man defined by his passion and stubborn determination, Frank never sat still. He was a busy soul who was always immersed in a new project or pursuit, whether it was learning to brew his own beer, meticulously working on his cars, golfing, coaching, or training for the multiple marathons he completed. Above all, his family remembers his fiercely competitive nature. He was a man who never once intentionally let his kids win—and if they got good enough to challenge him, he was known to cheat "like hell" to secure a victory. His street hockey opponents (often his children) bear forever-dented shins as proof of his relentless spirit. This same stubbornness and drive, described lovingly as being "as stubborn as an Ox," stayed with him all the way to the end. His children will forever cherish the memories of unforgettable road trips, quick-witted one-liners, and ski trips that were marked by both high adventure and high contention. The family requests that those who wish to honor his memory take a moment to enjoy a walk on the beach, a wager on who would win, or a long drive with the windows down and radio off. Cremation has taken place. The family is planning a celebration of life for Frank in 2026, and details will be shared at a later date.
