Gloria Marie Kersten Tlumac, age 92, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away on May 11, 2020. Born and raised in Edgewater, New Jersey, to Charles and Florence Keehn Kersten.
Gloria won a beauty contest at age 18, and she was proclaimed “Miss Seaside”. During WWII, she entertained the veterans at the VA hospital with Ed Sullivan’s wife. Gloria married a U.S. Navy private, Albert Tlumac; and raised 6 sons in River Vale, New Jersey.
She spent her summer vacations at the New Jersey shore with her family. As an avid theater goer, she loved to go out to New York City with her mother, Florence Kersten, to watch the Broadway plays and musicals at Rockefeller Center. In 1993, she retired and moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
She is survived by 5 of her 6 sons, Albert, Mark, Blaise, Neal and Glenn; 7 grandchildren, Lance Jr., Colton, David, Jeremiah, and Blaise Jr., Dawn and Angelina; 4 great grandchildren, Owen, Hunter, Chase and Kaila; and a brother, Charles Kersten. She was predeceased by her son Lance, of Wiscasset, Maine, and a brother, Jack Kersten.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with Father Patrick Quinn, T.O.R. officiating. Burial will follow at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the funeral home.
