Helen Roehrig Lee, 65, of New Smyrna Beach, died in her sleep Wednesday morning, May 25, 2016 at her home. Holly was born in Elwood, Indiana, daughter of Caleb and Frances Roehrig. Her family lived in Wayland, MA, before moving down to Quito, Ecuador and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with her family for the Peace Corps.
Holly graduated from Carol Morgan High School in Santo Domingo, and attended Bradford College. She was with her family in Washington, D.C. working as a dental assistant when she met the love of her life, Andy Lee, a Washington, D.C. police officer, who pulled her over for an illegal U-turn one day and the rest is history. Holly and Andy got married in Washington, D.C. on May 26, 1973.
They moved to Bentonville Arkansas, and Holly took a job at Sam’s Club. She quickly excelled and retired as a senior executive in 2007. Shortly thereafter, she and Andy moved to New Smyrna Beach to take care of Holly’s parents. After their death, they chose to stay in New Smyrna Beach.
Holly was an avid weight lifter. She loved to work out with her husband and beat her unsuspecting family members in arm wrestling matches. She loved to fish on the beach, read, and lavish her family members with gifts. She was the life of the party, staying up late to talk and drink wine with family and friends. At all times, Holly was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she was always eager to serve, listen, and give advice. She and Andy, with their love, encouragement, and senses of humor, made the Lee house in New Smyrna Beach a magnet for their extended families. Holly and Andy were happily married for 43 years, until her death. She is survived by her husband, Andrew (Andy) J. Lee III of New Smyrna Beach, FL; her four children; Andrew (Andy) J. Lee IV of Bentonville AR, Jessica and Seth Garner of Fayetteville, AR, Travis and Jennifer Lee of Cave Springs, AR, and Allison Lee of Bentonville, AR; her four sisters and their husbands; Nancy and Larry Bailey of Boise, ID, Elizabeth and John Abernathy of New Smyrna Beach, Susan and Jay Reilly of Milton, GA, Martha Roehrig of Daytona Beach; and one brother and his wife; Charlie and Amy Roehrig of Ann Arbor, MI; ten grandchildren; Taylor, Tia, Andrew, Caleb, Gracie, Cam, Kennedy, Mackenzie, Alexis, Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church in New Smyrna Beach, Tuesday, 4:00pm, May 31. The family will receive friends at the Settle Wilder Funeral Home, 406 S Orange St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in Holly’s memory may be made to: The Martha Christine Roehrig Trust; 705 Faulkner Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL, 32168.
