James Thomas Caputo

James Thomas Caputo, 70, of Pine Bush, NY and New Smyrna Beach Florida passed away on Monday, December 29th, 2025. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 8th, 1955 to Dominick and Virginia E. (Registro) Caputo.

James lived in Pine Bush, NY for over 60 years.

James is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Peter, John, and Dominick Caputo.

He is survived by his two sons, Matthew (Sarah) Caputo of Middletown, NY, and Jeffrey of White Lake, NY; their mom Lynne Caputo of Pine Bush, NY; his two sisters Mary Ethel (Frank) Nutt of Montgomery and Gina Marie (Joseph) Scott of Port Orange FL; his brother Michael Caputo of Altamonte Springs FL; and his two grandchildren Abigail and Peter.

James was a dedicated physical education teacher and coach in the Pine Bush School District for 33 years. He helped create a popular outdoor adventure Phys Ed curriculum at Pine Bush that introduced students to high and low ropes courses, orienteering, fly fishing, target shooting, and team building skills. He coached varsity football, basketball, and baseball, as well as numerous Little League teams for his boys. James was a loving father and grandfather. In his free time he enjoyed taking family boat rides at the lake and driving on the beach in Florida.

The family has chosen to celebrate James' life with a Catholic Mass on Thursday January 22nd at 11am at the Church of the Infant Savior in Pine Bush, NY. There will be no wake or viewing.
