John F. Gatto Sr., age 86, was called to the side of his heavenly father from complications
suffered due to the COV1D-19 Virus on December 27, 2020, in Port Orange, Florida.
John was born on September 15, 1934 in Falconer, New York, to parents Anthony Gatto and /
Mildred (Hunt) Gatto. As a child his family moved to the Town of Niagara, New York where he
was raised. He attended Trott Vocational HS where he starred in football, basketball and
baseball. John went to work at DuPont as a Chemical Operator in 1956. He retired in 1991. He
later relocated to Florida.
John was a member of the Buff Social Club, the Moose and had been a member of Niagara #1
Volunteer Fire Department. He loved spending time with his family. John enjoyed watching
sports as he was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees & Duke Basketball. Loving
the outdoors, John could often be found golfing, fishing and in his younger years hunting. John
played in a band The Northern Lights, for many years which led to one of his favorite hobbies in
retirement, karaoke. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
John is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jacque Gatto of Port Orange, Florida; his children: Tim
(Pam) Gatto, Rick (Nancy) Gatto, Anthony (Chris) Gatto, Annette (Rick) DiVita, Theresa
(Doug) Thomas and John (Beth) Gatto and his bonus children, Judi (Rick) Hahn, Jill Smith,
Jenni (Jeff) Mounteer-Ross, Jimmy Furches and Jeff (Rachel) Furches, along with several
grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary (John) Nielsen. In
addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 41 years Emma (O'Donnell) Gatto,
a grandson Gary John Gatto, two brothers Sam Gatto and Jim Gatto.
A Private family service will be held at a later date in Niagara Falls, New York.
