John (Jack) F. Block

John (Jack) F. Block, age 87, of Edgewater, passed away December 31, 2023 at his home. He was born in Washington DC on February 1, 1936, and grew up in Arlington, VA. 

Mr. Block graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1955 and then joined the Washington DC Air National Guard. 

He then worked for Westinghouse and Schindler Elevators as an mechanical engineer until his retirement in 2002. 

In his younger years he enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams and sons’ football teams and family camping trips and with the Hill & Dale and Daytona Drifters Good Sam Camping Clubs.

Survivors include their five children, Jeanine Marie Martineau and her husband, Wayne; Sharon Kay Pitts and her husband Russell; John David Block and his wife Dorianne; James Patrick Block and his wife Michelle; and Alan Wayne Block; one sister, Barbara B. Mullen. Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren will miss “Pop Pop” as well as 4 nephews and 4 nieces. Mr. Block is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Judith R. Block; parents, Emil F. Block and Eunice Helen Block; and his brother William L. Block.
