Kenneth MacArthur Smith

Kenneth MacArthur Smith, age 82, of Edgewater, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Halifax Health Hospice, Edgewater, surrounded by his loved ones.  Born in Sprague, WV to  Ernest and Hallie Mae Turpin Smith; Ken grew up in and around Beckley, WV and moved to this area in 1966 from West Virginia.

Ken graduated from Shady Spring High School in 1960 and had pre-enlisted in the Marines where he proudly served his Country. Following his USMC service, Ken joined the New Smyrna Beach Police Department protecting his City.  After retiring as a Captain, he worked as Chief of Security at the Islander Beach Lodge while serving as a reserve Volusia County Deputy. He became full time in 1986 and again served proudly for the County of Volusia; retiring as a Sergeant.  His career serving others spanned over 43 years.

When he was not serving and protecting; Ken enjoyed NASCAR racing, (he was able to work most Daytona races while in uniform), riding his motorcycle, dirt biking, traveling the United States by car or motor home, going on cruises, working on classic cars and being a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 40, New Smyrna Beach.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Holland Smith; a son, Kenneth Ray Smith (Susan Brennan), of Edgewater; sister, Carol (Ole Joe) Caruso, of Edgewater; niece, Jeri (Heath) Hall, of South Daytona; nephew Michael Gilbert, of West Virginia; 2 granddaughters Mallory Smith (Carley Metcalf), of Edgewater and Kendall (Bailey) Lucius, of Ohio; and 2 great grandchildren, Nora and Myles, of Ohio. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins  and countless friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by Mother, Father and Brother, Harlan Ray Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, February 7, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Settle Wilder Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 8, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 406 S. Orange St. New Smyrna Beach.
