Kent Snyder Obituary

Kent Snyder, 79 of Oswego, New York died Sunday March 7, 2021 at his winter residence in New Smyrna Beach. Born in Burlington, Vermont to Rudolph and Aileen O’ Brien Snyder. 

He then graduated high school from Burlington High School in 1959. Kent married Beverly Sargent on April 22, 1967 in Burlington, VT. They moved to Oswego in 1972. A retired journeyman electrician and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) of 57 yrs. He was in Local 300 in Vermont and Local 328 in Oswego and Local 43.

Kent served in the U.S. Navy. He was a supply officer and fireman. He had the opportunity to serve with his brother Stewart “Skip” on the USS Brush DD-745. 

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He spent most of his days on his front porch watching the happenings in Breitbeck Park and on Lake Ontario. Eating out at local diners was a favorite of his. 

Over the years he’d become close with staff and regulars. He was a simple man with a great sense of humor. He always had a crossword or jigsaw puzzle going. He liked to cook and had a passion for making soup.

Survivors include Kendra (Brian) Murphy of High Spring, Florida; 2 granddaughters Kaileen and McKenna Murphy also of High Springs, Florida; 2 brothers Ralph (Jeannine) Snyder of Daytona Beach, Florida; David (Jane) Snyder of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews. Kent was predeceased by wife Beverly and son K. Marshall “Marty” and 3 brothers Joel, Robert and Stewart.

 Donations may be made in Mr. Snyder’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
