L. Vernon Copeland

L. Vernon Copeland, age 92, of Edgewater, died Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Beachside Center for Rehabilitation Healthcare, New Smyrna Beach. Born in Selma, Alabama to Loyd and Sadie Clark Copeland, Vernon came to the area in 1961 from his birthplace.

Vernon graduated from Auburn University, then went on to the University of Alabama, Birmingham Medical School. He was in the Army/Air Corp through college, and he then went into the United States Air Force and was an Air Force doctor until his honorable discharge as a captain in 1960. He was an obstetrician/gynecologist in Deland and retired from his medical practice in 1986. He loved gardening, fishing and cooking. Vernon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include; his son, Hal (Tammy), of Edgewater; daughters, Cathy Larrison, of Lakeland and Carolyn Copeland, of Edgewater; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and brother, Hank Copeland of San Diego, CA. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11th 2023 at Shady Grove Church of God, with the Reverend Jim Burch officiating.
