Leona Mae Medders, age 84, died Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
Born in Palm Valley, FL to the late Floyd and Essie Churchill Benton. Leona was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a member of the American Legion Post 270 Port Orange. Leona enjoyed being a security guard with Allied Universal Security for 6 years. She and her friend Gene loved going to the dog track, fishing, and driving around picking oranges together. Leona also enjoyed arts and crafts, flowers especially orchids and roses.
Survivors include her daughter, Retha Medders of Port Orange; son, Kenny Medders of Alaska; two granddaughters, Rachel Rakentine of Jacksonville, Eva Hileurn of Alabama; two grandsons, Jonathan Reigel of South Carolina, Joseph Medders of Deltona; three great granddaughters, Lacey, Skyler, Kennedy; one great grandson, Michael; brother, Allen (Sharon) Benton of Port Orange; and life partner, Gene Roberts.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Johnnie; two sons, Steve and Dale; and a grandson Micheal.
A private Graveside service will be held at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.
