Lila Shepard Obituary

Lila R. Shepard, New Smyrna Beach, FL went home to be with her Lord August 3, 2021. Born in Durham, NC the daughter of Commie and Vallie Cope, Gorman, NC. Married 54 years to the love of her life Kenneth S. Shepard, Jr. She attended Durham County and city schools where she was an accomplished athlete. She worked many years as an orthodontic assistant.
 
Lila was a gifted pianist and served in the music ministries of churches wherever she lived from Gorman Baptist Church to most recently First Baptist Church Port Orange. Children’s choirs were her most loved service. She was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church, New Smyrna Beach and throughout her life walked in a manner worthy of her Savior Jesus Christ.
 
Lila was predeceased by her parents, brothers J.C. and Bill, and son Commie Lee. She is survived by her husband Ken; sons James (Mary Jane), of Southport, NC;  Arnold (Kellie), of Charlotte, TN; and Kent (Patty), of Dale City, VA; and daughter Joy (Joe), of New Smyrna Beach. Five grandchildren Donelle, Gary, Ruth Ann, Elizabeth, and Kenny. Nine great grandchildren, Desi, Gabe, Tyler, Maggie, Clinton, Wyatt, Annabelle, Waylon and Katie Lee.
 
Lila deeply loved her family and worked tirelessly to provide for their well being and nurture them. Her many friends through the years brought much joy. She will be greatly missed.
 
Burial will take place at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery with a private family service. Because of COVID no public memorial service is planned at this time.
