Lonnie Lee Everett, 80, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, passed peacefully from this earth on Tuesday, May 16 at his home in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louella Everett and his siblings William Everett, Peggy Gadbury, Charles Everett, Doris Everett, Lois Alspach, Elmer Everett and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Lonnie is survived by Cassandra “Sam”, his wife of 26 years, his four children, Stephanie “Suzette” (Joel) Kirk of Bridgeport, West Virginia, William “Beau” (Stephanie) Everett of New York, NY, Christopher Everett (Angie) of Sugar Hill, GA, and Cathy Ballew (George) of Virginia and 11 grandchildren, 4 great grand-children, numerous nieces and nephews and his Yorkie, Gracie.
Lonnie was born on July 20, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Castana High School Class of 1960. After graduating High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Lonnie is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He also served at Marine Corp Barracks Washington DC at 8th and I and through that service was part of the John F Kennedy funeral service, carrying JFK’s casket. Lonnie was Honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Lonnie worked for over 35 years in the trucking industry as a National Sales account manager. His long and distinguished career included multiple large trucking companies.
Lonnie could tell a story and captivated any room he was in with his presence. He sometimes seemed bigger than life. He loved life and was a master host, always ensuring that his loved ones and friends had what they needed. Lonnie’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also loved being at the beach and fishing.
Although stricken with advanced Parkinson’s disease in 2017 he never gave up actively engaging with his wife, children, grandchildren and beloved Yorkshire terriers. He will remain in our hearts forever.
A memorial service with Military Honors is scheduled for Sunday, May 21st at 2 pm at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach with Pastor Rob Cosmos presiding. A reception will be immediately following at the Seacoast Gardens II & III clubhouse.
