Margaret Fox Hughes, age 94, of New Smyrna Beach, died Friday June 18, 2021 at her residence. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Margaret came to the area in 1954 from her birthplace.
An owner/operator of a Pampas Nursery, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Southeast Volusia Visiting Nurses Association, Oceanside Womens Club, SNRJ Lodge, Florida Farm Bureau, Grange Society Patrons of Husbandry, and the Halifax Club. Margaret enjoyed drinking hot tea, gardening, cooking and sewing. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother that will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Mokas; 2 sons, Stuart (Peggy) Hughes and Richard (Samantha) Hughes, all of New Smyrna Beach; grandchildren, Meghan, Robert, Veronica and William Hughes; and Michael Mokas, all of New Smyrna Beach. Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins of Dublin, Ireland and Australia. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 40 years, William; and son-in-law, Evan Mokas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Redemptorist Fathers, officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.
