Mary Kay Bixby, 79 years young, of New Smyrna Beach, died Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Advent
Health, New Smyrna. Born in Salina, Kansas, Mary Kay moved to New Smyrna Beach from
Junction City, Kansas in 1965 as a newlywed with her husband Basil to start a family.
She lived her life every day with optimism, a bright smile and an unwavering determination to
live and love life as fully as she was able. Mary Kay fully and wholeheartedly loved her family
and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; a founding member of MS Society of Volusia County; worked in the banking industry, and recently became a member of the Hub on Canal Street and found a love of jewelry making and crafting.
Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Basil; three children, Doug (Meredith) Bixby,
of New Smyrna Beach, Kimberly (Charles) Curran-Merz, of Edgewater; and Daniel (Tracy)
Bixby, of Ormond Beach; Grandchildren, Michael (Hailey) Curran, Megan Curran, Lauren
Bixby, Andrew Bixby; step grandchildren, Sara Merz, Deven Merz and great grandson, James
Curran; brother, Larry (Barb) Weians; sister Jean Ann (Bob) Wadsworth and the family service
dog, Dante.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Redemptorist Fathers, officiating. Friends will also be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.
