Mary L. (Schanafelt) Keyes

Mary L. Keyes (née Schanafelt) passed away on March 12, 2025 at the age of 99 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida while in hospice care. 

Born May 15, 1925 on a farm in Salem, Illinois to Elston D. And Lillian (Martin) Schanafelt. She graduated from Salem High School.

She married J. Edwin Keyes III in 1956. They raised their family in Stuart, Florida and retired to New Smyrna Beach in 1987. 

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Keith, sisters Annamae and Rebecca, and her beloved husband.

She is survived by her three children: daughter Kathryn Bone (Thomas), sons William and James, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

No memorial service is planned at this time. Her ashes will be interred with her husband’s (a World War II veteran) in Arlington National Cemetery.
