Michael (Mickey) Kiely Obituary

Michael Thomas Kiely (Mickey), age 54, died Sunday, January 22, 2023 at his residence in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  Born in Rockville Centre, New York to Francis Thomas and Mary Joyce Kiely.  He was the youngest of seven and grew up in Valley Stream, New York. He moved to Florida in 1995, where he met his wife Debbie. Mickey and Debbie moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 2020 after living in Clermont, Florida for over twenty years.

Mickey had an outgoing and friendly personality. He truly never met a stranger. Whether he was in a hallway at work or a walk around the block with his favorite dog, Ranger, Mickey always had time to stop and talk.

He was completely selfless and focused his efforts on his family and friends. He maintained his earliest relationships and kept his family close. He was a loving and dedicated husband and a supportive and proud father. He spoke to his sisters, brother and mother frequently and loved to spend time visiting. He enjoyed watching Kate and Jack grow up. He drove them to school until high school and was an involved Dad cheering them at every sport.  He loved getting to know their friends and enjoyed watching them all grow up, never shy to offer tutoring or career advice.

Mickey was an endurance athlete at heart. He was an avid runner since grade school. He ran throughout his life including the Boston Marathon. He also enjoyed swimming and was on the Board of Directors for the YMCA in Orlando.

Mickey’s career as a CPA began in New York as a young accountant for KPMG. He rose through the ranks to become a Senior Director of Finance for Marriott Club Vacations in Orlando and finally a Vice President of Controls and Compliance at Holiday Inn Club Vacations. He was also an Associate Professor at Valencia College where he enthusiastically taught Accounting 101.

Mickey held a doctorate in accounting from North Central University and an MBA from the University of Tampa. He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from the State University of New York in Albany where he was a member of the Men’s Track and Field Team where he met some of his closest lifelong friends.
